This morning a mail was received with the following post script:
"P.S. Why is it that in the whole English language only "I" is in capital letters in the middle of a sentence? Surely if it was Godly we would have "I" as a small letter and the third party as a capital letter? Methinks me smells a subtle deception ...."
Taking this further, it is notable that we tend to use capitals when referring to God, as in "Him", "He", etc as well as when using proper nouns (names). "I" is not a proper noun but easily becomes a "god" or an "idol".
This note reminded me of a statement in the book "Lord Teach Me How to Love" summarized in an article we posted on 17 November 2000. The relevant extract reads:
"Page 78. God hates the proud look proverbs 6:16,17.
God has a problem with people who are always boasting about their accomplishments.
GIVE GOD THE GLORY ELSE YOU MAKE YOURSELF YOUR OWN IDOL!
Wherever you see the spirit of "I" you see the spirit of Satan!
Brag on God."
The correlation between the spirit of "I" and the spirit of Satan has a ring of truth to it and for months now the writer has been making an effort to cut down on the use of "I" and other personal pronouns and to make what is written more independent of self. This has been and continues to be an enormous challenge.
However, this note this morning really hit a responsive chord. There really is NO reason to use "I" when "i" will do and there is a not so subtle distinction associated in the discipline of writing this way.
The more we can remove AI@ and self from our lives, the easier it is to put God first!
May Yahweh bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you in the Name of the Lord Yahshua Messiah.
Shalom
