BIBLIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
ABSTRACT: "Christians" have a common heritage with the Jews, yet numerous atrocities have been committed in the name of "Jesus Christ". This article, by John Hagee traces some of the scriptural principles which establish the common heritage of Christians and Jews and then reports some of the key atrocities committed by people who called themselves "Christian". This includes the participation of "Christians" in the Nazi SS and the Holocaust.
The scriptural basis of this development is briefly mentioned and readers are encouraged to take account of these historical facts in ministering to Jews, Moslems and other groups and also to take time in their prayers to repent for the sins of our forefathers in the faith.

SUMMARY
This article provides an overview of the relationship between the Jews and the Church (Christianity) over the past 2,000 years. This is presented in the context of the fulfillment of Bible prophecy that is taking place in the world today and, in particular, sets out to set aside the concept of "replacement theology" that is prevalent in certain quarters without any scriptural basis.
The first part of the article summarizes the Jewish roots of faith in Yahshua Messiah (Jesus Christ) and demonstrates the scriptural basis on which believers in Yahshua should regard Jews as brothers.
The second part of the article addresses the question of how Christian anti-Semitism began. It traces Roman hatred for the Jews back to the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. and links it to the integration of the "Christian" church and Roman state at the time of Constantine.
At about this time hatred for the Jews as "Christ killers" started to come to the fore and has continued for the past 1,600 years or more. Through the centuries millions of Jews have been brutally murdered in the Crusades, the Inquisition and more recently during the Holocaust during World War II where many of those participating in the murder of 6 million Jews were professing "Christians".
The need for reconciliation and repentance is stressed.
SCRIPTURAL CONTEXT
Acts 20:29-30
29 "For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 "Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. (NKJ)
These two verses and others refer to the falling away of many believers from the true faith after the first generation of apostles. This article reports some of the consequences of that falling away.
PREAMBLE
It is vital for Believers in Yahshua Messiah Adonai (the Lord Jesus Christ) to understand at least in broad terms the extent to which atrocities have been committed in the name of "Jesus Christ", "Christ" and "Christian" in the past 2,000 years.
With such understanding it is far easier to understand the terrible antipathy that exists amongst many Jews and Moslems towards those who convert to "Christianity". While this article refers specifically to the Jews, our information is that similar excesses were committed against Moslems by the Crusaders and others. This must be remembered when one responds to "Jihad" and other seeming excesses by Moslems. Our information is that Jihad came into existence in response to "Christian" excesses. Consideration of this article also must surely cause one to wonder at the courtesy with which many Jews and Moslems treat "Christians". We have much to learn about forgiveness.
It is hoped that with this background, it will be easier for readers to understand part of the context behind the need to use the correct, Hebrew names "Yahweh", "Yahshua", "Messiah" and "Adonai", rather than the Greek and English names which are associated with such travesties of justice and such abominable conduct. Returning to the correct Hebrew names is one of many acts which Yahweh requires of true believers in this age in order to heal the division between Jews and believers in Yahshua Messiah Adonai (the Lord Jesus Christ) in order that the Jews may come to a saving knowledge of Yahshua Messiah.
As Daniel repented of the sins of his forefathers in Daniel 9:2-21, so it is time for us to repent of the sins of our forefathers in the faith:
2 in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of Yahweh (the LORD) through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
3 Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.
4 And I prayed to Yahweh (the LORD) my God, and made confession, and said, "O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments,
5 "we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments.
6 "Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land.
7 "O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us shame of face, as it is this day-- to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those near and those far off in all the countries to which You have driven them, because of the unfaithfulness which they have committed against You.
8 "O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.
9 "To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him.
10 "We have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh (the LORD) our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets.
11 "Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice; therefore the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against Him.
12 "And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great disaster; for under the whole heaven such has never been done as what has been done to Jerusalem.
13 "As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before Yahweh (the LORD) our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth.
14 "Therefore Yahweh (the LORD) has kept the disaster in mind, and brought it upon us; for Yahweh (the LORD) our God is righteous in all the works which He does, though we have not obeyed His voice.
15 "And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and made Yourself a name, as it is this day-- we have sinned, we have done wickedly!
16 "O Lord, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all those around us.
17 "Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord's sake cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary, which is desolate.
18 "O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies.
19 "O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name."
20 Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Yahweh (the LORD) my God for the holy mountain of my God,
21 yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering. (NKJ)
This article should be seen in the context of the previous articles on "Seeking for God's Truth - The Key to Unity", "Seek Truth Not Error", "Of Evangelism to other denominations and faiths, of marriage across denominational boundaries, of God's truth and a better way", "Thoughts on the Mail regarding "Islam's End Time Teachings"", "Persecution of Christians" and "What is the bridge to bring the Jews to salvation?". All these articles make some reference to the apostasy and / or brutality of those who have called themselves by the name of "Christ" over the years.
It is important to understand that many of the doctrinal heresies and traditions that are taken for granted amongst many "Christians" today, for example "Christmas", "Easter", etc also date back to the time of the amalgamation of church and state in Rome, if not before. The "ravening wolves", referred to in Acts 20:29-30, did more than destroy the brethren and the Jews, they destroyed much of the fabric of the faith. Many of these truths are only now being restored to the Body of Believers and this is a central part of the calling of End Time Issue Ministries.
This article is published as received. While we cannot vouch for all the finer points of the historical allegations made, we have encountered sufficient evidence of the broader allegations to accept that, in broad terms, this article is accurate.

ISRAEL AND THE CHURCH
By Pastor John Hagee
Obtained from the Remnant Sounds discussion list remnantsounds@egroups.com
As the eyes of God and the eyes of the world are riveted on the day-by-day events unfolding in Jerusalem, I want you to understand the biblical prophecy that is unfolding in our lifetimes. That's why I have just finished writing the most explosive prophetic book of my life, "The Battle for Jerusalem," which will be released nationally and around the world this April.
But to give you a basis of knowledge to understand the prophetic events in Israel that my latest book addresses, I believe we must confront and correct the false doctrine that is currently exploding in America concerning Israel and the Church.
Some Christians say that God replaced His chosen people of Israel with the Church. This "replacement theology" began in the second century A.D. and is the very foundation of the poisonous anti-Semitism that has stained the history of Christianity and brought the world the horror of the Holocaust.
WHAT CHRISTIANS AND JEWS HAVE IN COMMON
Think about it! Everything we cherish as Christians came to us from Jewish roots! We serve the same God. Both Christians and Jews get their spiritual roots from Abraham and God's great, everlasting covenant with him: "And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee for generations for an everlasting covenant..." (Genesis 17:7)
Saint Paul writes concerning the Church in Galatians 3:7-9 "Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture foreseeing that God would justify the heathen (Gentiles) through faith, preached before the Gospel until Abraham, saying in thee shall all the nations be blessed!"
We owe a great debt of gratitude to the Jewish people. Our Bible was written by Jewish hands. It was the hand of Moses that wrote the Ten Commandments and the first five books of the Scriptures. It was the hand of Joshua that wrote: (Joshua 1:9) "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage: Do not be afraid, nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
Moses was Jewish. Joshua was Jewish. All the patriarchs and all the prophets were Jewish. It was Daniel who gave us the panorama of prophecy that has proven absolutely correct to the last detail. That prophecy states that very soon the earth will be shaken by the sudden appearance of the Son of God in the clouds of heaven. Are you ready for the Final Judgement?
Jesus, Himself, kept the law of Moses. "Do not think that I have come to destroy the law," he said, "but to fulfil it!" (Matthew 5:17). Jesus celebrated His Bar Mitzvah at age 13, and wore a prayer shawl from that day until His death!
How did almighty God get His Son to this earth in human form? He chose a Jewish virgin named Mary whose faith dared to believe she could become the "mother of God." In response to the angel's announcement, she humbly said: "My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit doth rejoice in God my savior!" (Luke 1:46-47). She walked into a cave - filled with the stench of donkeys and goats - and gave birth to Jesus, the rock of our salvation, the lion of Judah, the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords.
Of course Mary was Jewish. But it's a fact of history that, during World War II, the Nazis (most of whom were baptized Christians) would kiss the toe of Saint Peter's statue, genuflect before the Blessed Virgin ... and then go out and throw Jewish children alive into the gas ovens.
Ask yourself, how can any Christian praise the Jews of the past - the prophets, the patriarchs, the disciples, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus - and then hate the Jews across the street? They're the same family.
HOW DID CHRISTIAN ANTI-SEMITISM GET STARTED?
This is not pleasant but America needs to hear it. Let's walk through world and Church history one bloody, brutal page at a time.
All of the early followers of Jesus were Jewish. Then God did a shocking thing in Acts 10. He gave Peter a vision of a sheet with unclean animals (representing Gentiles), and told Peter to go to the house of Cornelius who was a Gentile and preach the gospel. When Peter preached, many were saved and Spirit-filled, and Gentiles began to flood into the church.
Then in 70 A.D., the Roman army attacked Jerusalem. Titus laid seige to the city in a terrible massacre. Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed and there was terrible starvation. Although the Jews fought fiercely, the Romans slaughtered 1.1 million Jews. Hating the Jews for their resistance, Titus took 97,000 men and prisoners back to Rome. There the Jewish slaves built the Roman Coliseum, where Christians were slaughtered.
When the Gentile believers in Jerusalem saw the invading Roman army, they said, "This is not our fight. We're not Jews." They fled to Antioch. In Acts 11:26, we see, "They were first called Christians in Antioch."
Titus and the Roman army returned to Rome, seething with hatred toward the Jews. Later, when the political government of Rome merged with the Church under Constantine, in one day Christianity was saturated with idols and images. The great whore of Revelation 17 was born. And so was Christian anti-Semitism.
A Roman Church leader, Saint John Chrysostom, announced to the world: "The Jews are the killers of Christ. God hates you and I hate you!"
This venom rang in the ears of Christians for 1600 years. Some are still poisoned by its venomous hatred in America today.
The facts of what happened to the Jews at the hands of Christians are shocking. There were seven major crusades. During the first one which left Germany in 1096, 12,000 Jews were slaughtered in three months as the "Knights of the Cross" screamed, "The Jews have killed our Savior." When they entered Jerusalem in 1099 under Godfrey, 969 Jewish men, women, and children ran for safety into the synagogue. The crusaders locked the doors and set the synagogue on fire. As the people burned, the crusaders sang together joyously, "Christ we adore thee."
Then came the Inquisition! Jews accused of heresy were tortured by the Roman Church in unthinkable ways. People were pulled in half on the rack. Their heads were put in a vice with the screws turned slowly until the skull exploded. Other forms of torture devised by the Church were even more gruesome. In fact, noted historian John Toland said, "The black-clad Nazi SS was constructed on Jesuit principles by copying the methods of Ignatius Loyola."
Last year, when the Pope asked the world's forgiveness for what the Church had done in its past, it was courageous ... and necessary!
The theology of the Roman Church led to the Holocaust! The Fourth Lateran Council of 1215 declared that the Jews must wear distinctive clothing - Hitler's star of David. They could not own property - a justification for Hitler's confiscation of Jewish property and Krystall Nacht. Jews were forced to live in ghettos by the Church. Hilter did the same thing. Jews were killed in mass extermination as "heretics"; and Hitler produced the Final Solution where six million Jews were systematically slaughtered!
Martin Luther wrote a book entitled, "Concerning the Jews and Their Lies." In it, he said, "Know this, Christian, that you have no more hated enemy than a Jew. Their synagogues should be burned ... their tongues cut out through the back of their necks."
Hitler loved Luther. By invading Poland on Luther's birthday, Hitler celebrated the church leader's contribution to the Third Reich.
For 2,000 years, the Jewish people have seen hatred, brutality, murder, rape, and robbery in the name of God! When a Christian sees a cross, he sees salvation. But when a Jew sees a cross, he sees death! He sees the emblem under which his relatives have been slaughtered for centuries - as recently as 1933-1945.
Has God cast away Israel? In Romans 11:2, Paul gives the answer: "God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew." In Romans 11:11, Paul explains "that through their fall, salvation is come to the Gentiles." He points out, "Blindness has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written." (Romans 11:25-26)
I know this has been a gut-twisting walk through the brutal pages of the history of Israel and the Church. But as prophesied, a remnant of Israel has been preserved through the great tribulation. With the return of the Jews to the Holy Land, the stage is now set for the final days before the Kingdom of God is established on earth! Are you ready?

CLOSURE
It is hoped that this article has been helpful.
In this age we cannot expect to minister effectively to either Jews or Moslems if we are not prepared to own and repent for these atrocities. This may also have a bearing on many others who are aware of these facts.
